I am going to state the obvious: American Christianity is in the midst of a civil war. This war is about the issue of Social Justice and in my opinion at the end of the day it will have the same ramifications of the war between the Modernists and Fundamentalists. Just today I watched a video of a “casualty” of this war; a mighty man by the name of AD Robles. You can see his announcement below that he is resigning from pastoring the church he is at due to the stance he has taken.
I am glad to hear that he will continue fighting the good fight and standing for what is right, but this whole situation reminds me of an old hymn that I believe we need to be reminded of.
Ho, my comrades, see the signal, waving in the sky!
Reinforcements now appearing, victory is nigh.“Hold the fort, for I am coming,” Jesus signals still;
Wave the answer back to Heaven, “By Thy grace we will.”See the mighty host advancing, Satan leading on;
Mighty ones around us falling, courage almost gone!“Hold the fort, for I am coming,” Jesus signals still;
Wave the answer back to Heaven, “By Thy grace we will.”See the glorious banner waving! Hear the trumpet blow!
In our Leader’s Name we triumph over every foe.“Hold the fort, for I am coming,” Jesus signals still;
Wave the answer back to Heaven, “By Thy grace we will.”Fierce and long the battle rages, but our help is near;
Onward comes our great Commander, cheer, my comrades, cheer!“Hold the fort, for I am coming,” Jesus signals still;
Wave the answer back to Heaven, “By Thy grace we will.”
In the midst of this civil war over Social Justice, we must remember to “hold the fort”. If you are a Christian leader today I want to challenge you to stand firm in your conviction no matter what the consequences may be. We are called to please the One who enlisted us and that means we must stand no matter how fierce the battle is. If you are a layman, I want to challenge you to support the leaders who are standing and taking the hits. We need your support to continue standing.
As we “See the mighty host advancing, Satan leading on; Mighty ones around us falling, courage almost gone!” we must remember to be faithful to what God has called us to do and we must be prepared for the battle that is at hand. Christian, stand firm and hold the fort!
