January 3, 2020 marked the opening day of the 117th Congress for the House of Representatives and as is customary they were opened with a prayer. Representative Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO) gave the prayer. This makes sense since he is an ordained Methodist minister and served as pastor of St. James United Methodist Church in Kansas City, Missouri, from 1972 to 2009. His prayer revealed a deep theological flaw that places his soul in great danger as he is destined for Hell if he does not repent.
Here is a transcript of his prayer:
LET US PRAY. ETERNAL GOD, WE BOW BEFORE YOUR THROWN OF GRACE AS WE LEAVE BEHIND THE POLITICALLY AND SOCIALLY CLAMOROUS YEAR OF 2020. WE GATHER NOW IN THIS CONSEQUENTIAL CHAMBER TO INAUGURATE ANOTHER CHAPTER IN OUR ROLLER COASTER REPRESENTATIVE GOVERNMENT. CONTROL OUR TRIBAL TENDENCIES AND QUICKEN OUR SPIRITS. THAT WE MAY FEEL THY PRIESTLEY PRESENCE EVEN IN MOMENTS OF HEIGHTENED DISAGREEMENT. MAY WE SO FEEL YOUR PRESENCE THAT OUR SERVICE HERE MAY NOT BE SOILED BY ANY UTTERANCES OR ACTS UNWORTHY OF THIS HIGH OFFICE. INSERT IN OUR SPIRIT A LIGHT SO BRIGHT THAT WE CAN SEE OURSELVES AND OUR POLITICS AS WE REALLY ARE, SOILED BY SELFISHNESS, PERVERTED BY PREJUDICE AND INVAGUELED BY IDEOLOGY. NOW MAY THE GOD WHO CREATE THE WORLD AND EVERYTHING IN IT BLESS US AND KEEP US. MAY THE LORD MAKE HIS FACE TO SHINE UPON US AND BE GRACIOUS UNTO US. MAY THE LORD LIFT UP THE LIGHT OF HIS COUNTNENCE UPON US AND GIVE US PEACE. PEACE IN OUR FAMILY, PEACE ACROSS THIS LAND AND DARE I ASK, O LORD, PEACE EVEN IN THIS CHAMBER. NOW AND EVER MORE. WE ASK IT IN THE NAME OF THE MONOTHEISTIC GOD AND THE GOD KNOWN BY MANY NAMES AND FAITHS. A MAN AND A WOMAN — AMEN AND AWOMAN.[i]
What this transcript conveniently leaves out in the last phrase and what Rep. Cleaver actually said is this, “We ask it in the name of the monotheistic God, Brahma, and ‘god’ known by many names by many different faiths, amen and awoman.” Beyond the utter stupidity and ridiculousness of saying “awoman” I want to point out the spiritually fatal flaw in what he said. Rep. Cleaver is claiming that there is one “god” (monotheistic) but he is also claiming that all “gods” are what this “god” is. He includes Brahma a Hindu “god” and makes it clear that he is praying to the god of “many different faiths.”
What Rep. Cleaver is promoting is universalism. He clearly believes in the idea that all faiths lead to heaven or as I like to call it, “Finding Nemo Theology: All drains lead to the ocean.” Let me be clear, not all faiths lead to heaven, the Bible is clear that there is one way to get to heaven.
John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
Acts 4:12 “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
No doubt, in his prayer he used many “Christian” phrases and even some principles that can be traced to the Bible, but the mere uses of Christian language does not mean that you are actually a Christian. In 2 Corinthians 11:4 there is a warning about receiving the wrong Jesus, “For if he who comes preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or if you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted–you may well put up with it!” Just as the church in Corinth was warned about “another Jesus” so Rep. Cleaver has prayed to a different “god” and has therefore believed in another Jesus – the wrong Jesus!
For this reason his soul is in danger of eternal damnation. Many may be wondering how this can be since he is an ordained and seasoned minister. In the book of Jude we get the answer and insight to understand how this can be, “For certain men have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ. (Jude 4)” Rep. Cleaver has denied God as the only Lord God and therefore has denied Jesus Christ. In doing this, he also has turned the grace of God into lewdness. As a democrat, he endorses and supports abominations like, sodomy, systemic theft (wealth redistribution), and the shedding of innocent blood (baby murder).
God’s word has a harsh proclamation for a person who preaches a different gospel: “But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. (Galatians 1:8)” There is but one hope for Rep. Cleaver and that is to heed the call that has been preached from the day of Pentecost, “Be saved from this perverse generation.”
This salvation is through Jesus Christ and Him alone! I pray that Rep. Cleaver hears the gospel of Jesus Christ – That Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again on the third day – for if he does not hear and respond to the gospel he is destined for Hell.

Even for Emmanuel Cleaver is the book Hosea chapters 4 and 5 written and placed in the Bible. Let him be freed from a religious ghost and save his ministry from being misled by Lucifer.
